Background:

Char was the son of working class parents.  When he awakened he was trained to master his skills by his parent's crop, Ares.

After a couple years of working as a wage mage he had an encounter with a group of shadowrunners.  The money they offered him was to good, so he let them slip away.

 

Then he got to thinking if they had that kind of nuyen to bribe a wage mage, they must be making some series paydays.  He decided then that he was tired of the corporate life.

 

He had some leverage on an exec, and used it to slip into the shadows.  However it was not quite as clean as he would have liked and he still gets called in to do some work for Ares.
